We have had many listeners and friends sending lots of emails, facebook messages, and phone calls about JC being in the Gulf and our concerns here at Politely Disruptive. He has been in the Gulf for over 2 weeks on a mission. Read more below….

http://www.ireport.com/blogs/ireport-blog/2010/06/11/in-the-oil-spill-zone-with-johnny-colt#cf

Johnny Colt wears a respirator mask while leaning over the side of a small boat. He scoops up a handful of batter-like brown muck. The signs of the oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico are in his hands.

Colt has been traveling around the Gulf with a crew, observing the toll of the oil disaster first-hand. He went through Hazmat training and collected samples from a bay in Grand Isle, Louisiana. Since then, he’s met the mayor of Grand Isle, interviewed an inventor of a valid oil slick solution and traveled to rare dune lakes in Florida.

When the news of the oil disaster first broke, Colt, a musician, left his Atlanta home and sped off for the Gulf Coast.

“I’ve been coming down to the Gulf to vacation with my family for 20 years,” he said. “I couldn’t believe how little information we were getting. I didn’t like feeling like a victim.”

Colt talked about his journey with CNN Newsroom’s Tony Harris on Tuesday. Live from a beach in Destin, Florida, he shared the environmental horrors he’s seen.

“When I arrived at Grand Isle, [Louisiana], I walked beaches full of oil, I bobbed and weaved through the National Guard, there are protest cemeteries in people’s front yards …” he told Harris.

Even though oil slick images were all over the news, nothing could have prepared Colt for what he actually saw. “I was shocked by the epic proportions of the disaster. I expected it to be bad, but not that bad,” he said.

Look out for Colt somewhere out on the Gulf, tracking the mess the oil disaster’s left behind. The former bassist of the Black Crowes, reality show veteran and self-described independent journalist is just uncovering the many stories to be told.

It’s been ‘a minute’ since our last blog and it has been a blur. We have had so many great guests on the show and have so many lined up, we can’t wait!
Recently we have had a couple great guests that had amazing events. Jennifer Shu, a triple threat, joined Politely Disruptive Radio to discuss her work as a pediatrician, upcoming books, being a published author, and her band Coventry Road. Shu, the vocalist of the Atlanta based Alt Country band, tells PDR of the recently released album, show dates, and how to wear cool glasses.

http://www.jennifershu.com

Also recently on Politely Disruptive, we had the pleasure of hosting the Yelp.com ‘Empress” Kathleen McNeill. Coming off an amazing ATL party free-for-all at the Gold Room, look for McNeill on Yelp.com for upcoming events, great reviews, hilarious photos, and there may even be some Yelp/PDR action coming up soon.

http://www.yelp.com/atlanta

Until next time download the AM1690 app to your iPhones, listen in on the AM dial, call in tell them how great we are, and have a wonderful day. More to come.

Elvis Costello “Toledo” & Homemade Fresh Fruit Icecicles

I was recently making this recipe trying to decide what my next food and music pairing was going to be. I regularly make these delicious snacks. That’s when it hit me that something so close to home should definately be thrown into the Politely Disruptive Radio Musical Mastication.

It did however take me 3 days to decide what song to pair the frozen fruitness with as it had to be perfect. In between innings of the Braves vs Nationals game I watched a few moments of Austin Powers and that is when it hit me. There sat Burt Bacharat and Elvis Costello on a random restaurant patio playing music together. It was spring, or it at least looked like it, and just seemed a refreshing fruit popsicle would be on point.

You can of course juice anything you want. I have even tried asparagus! This is my personal favorite variety.

6 Full Size Carrots, Organic Preferred, slice to tit into a juicer
1 Whole Pineapple, Cleaned and Sliced to fit into a juicer
12 Popsicle sticks
1 ice tray

Juice both the carrots and pineapple. Pour both into a mixing bowl. Make sure the mixing bowl has a pouring nipple or spout. Pour the mixed juices into the clean ice tray. Take the sticks and lay into each ice shaped hole. I like how they freeze irregularly. As Johnny Colt advised you can stretch plastic wrap over the ice tray prior to inserting the sticks throough it so the treats will be perfectly straight.
Be sure to turn up Toledo while eating one. It makes sense.
